Tourist information
Postcards from Titan is an AddOn scenario for Chris Laurel´s 3D space simulator, Celestia. The scenario lets you explore a semi-factual Titan in high resolution.

Downloading and installing the AddOn

There are two versions: a light, realistic version, and the full, "conceptual" one that contains a lot of fictious stuff... The full version needs a very good hardware setup to run smoothly. Pick the one to your taste from one of these sites:
Note: the full version is split into two separate downloads because of it´s size. You only need part 1, part 2 just gives you much higher resolution for the Virtual Textures, should you want it.

  1. If you have it, make sure to disable or remove Jestr´s Cassini-Huygens AddOn before you start. Then:
  2. Place either the light or the full version in your Celestia /extras/addons/ directory
  3. If you selected the full version, place the contents of Part 2 (the HiRes folder) inside it´s Textures folder, like so: /extras/addons/th_titan/textures/hires/
  4. Re-start Celestia

Recommended system specs
  • Celestia 1.4 pre+ for Windows, OSX or Linux (required)
  • A graphics card with 64 MB VRAM or better
  • Preferrably 1GB RAM, though less will work
  • 88 MB free disk space for the light version
  • 660 MB free disk space for the full version (337 MB less if you don´t install the separate HiRes folder)

Credits
  • Dr. Fridger Schrempp, for use of his Titan maps - with many thanks for the helpful discussion, information, and encouragement
  • Ulrich Dickmann, for the very cool Huygens CelX script
  • Jestr at the Celestia forums for contributing his great Cassini/Huygens models and data
